It'll come as no surprise, then, to see it take a spot on our best Netflix movies list. The boxing movie, which turned Sylvester Stallone into an overnight star, is unrivalled in its exploration of class divide, underdog spirit, and iconic music (who here hasn't worked out to Eye of the Tiger or the Rocky theme tune?). (Image credit: United Artists)įew sports dramas have been as influential in the film industry as 1976's Rocky. The Rocky franchise wouldn't be what it is without Sylvester Stallone. And, with Wahlberg, MacFarlane, and Kunis all on top form, it's one we can't help but recommend. Still, you can't argue against its $550 million box office haul on a budget of just $50 to $60 million. The pair are inseparable and enjoy a hedonistic lifestyle, but soon find themselves at odds when John's girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis) gives him an ultimatum: grow up and enjoy their lives together without Ted in tow, or forever be associated as the single guy who lives with his anthropomorphic toy.Ī raunchy and hilarious flick, albeit one with a somewhat generic plot, Ted is a film that you'll either love or hate. Mark Wahlberg stars as John, a 35-year-old manchild who shares every aspect of his life with Ted (voiced by MacFarlane), his childhood stuffed bear that came to life one night when John wished for him to do so. With scintillating performances from Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Willem Dafoe, and Alfred Molina (in Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 in particular) among many others, the webslinger's first live-action films are must-see for any comic book film fan, and proved there was a space for these flicks on the big screen. Those issues aside, though, they're everything a comic book movie should be – thematically rich, funny, action-packed, narratively dark when needed, gorgeous to look at, and come equipped with a banging score and original soundtrack. Okay, the Tobey Maguire-starring films may have aged slightly since they were original released, and they can come off as slightly goofy, campy, and a tad misogynistic. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movie trilogy laid the foundations for plenty of what we've see in the Marvel, DCEU, and more of the best superhero movies we've enjoyed in the 21st century. I'd like to buy more Lucchese's, but I don't think I will unless they are on sale. 10.5 is doable, but the throat is still so tight I need a boot jack to remove it. A 10 in Goat, and most times I can't even get my foot into the throat. The Mignon and the El Patron have giant, thick soles, with the Lucchese only being slightly thicker than the tecova.Īlso, there seems to be some inconsistencies in how Lucchese utilizes their leathers and sizing. I'd probably rank the Clint's leather as similar to the Mignon, and definitely a step below the Tecova and the El Patron. The Clint doesn't hold up any more (or any less, to be fair) than any of the others. The others are just as comfortable as, or more comfortable than, the Clint. The first three are all way less than $300. My faves currently, in no particular order: Tony Lama El Patron in smooth ostrich, some bourbon Cartwrights, Dan Post Mignon, and some Lucchese 1883's (Clints, I think). I've got at least one of pretty much every brand, but I'm a bit lost on what the big deal about Lucchese's are? I've gotten up quite the collection (I need help. Today the company is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. So, I've been wearing boots now year round for the past couple of years. The legacy created by the cobbler from Fort Bliss lives on in legendary boots made with unmatched craftsmanship and innovative technology. At this time the company employed 780 employees and produced 3,100 pairs of boots a day. Some of the characteristics were low heels and vibrant colors and designs. They made boots that were extremely stylish for both cowboys and the general public. Truman.īusiness continued to boom during the 1950’s as the company became an innovator in styles and technology. In fact in 1948 he made of pair of custom-made boots for the President of the United States, Harry S. In 1946 Tony Lama turned his business into a corporation. During World War II the company had a difficult time due to scarcity of leather but as soon as the war ended the business boomed. He taught his children boot making skills which had made his boots famous across the Southwest.īy 1933 his factory was producing forty pairs of boots a day. The children became active workers in his company. In 1917 he married Ester Hernandez and they had six children. He would hand craft custom made western boots for his customers with unmatched style and comfort. Cowboys and ranchers would come to Tony Lama’s shop with hides requesting custom made boots. About this time, the Army started to phased out the Calvary and Tony Lama concentrated on the western boots for his customers. That first year, with the help of one assistant, he repaired boots for the soldiers and hand crafted twenty pairs of hand made boots. He continued to do business with the soldiers at Fort Bliss. Tony Lama started his company in 1912 as a small boot repair shop on East Overland Street in El Paso. It is a true old west town with cowboys, soldiers and ranchers who all wore boots. Once he completed his tour of duty with the Calvary he settled in the border town of El Paso, Texas. His expertise as a custom boot maker spread quickly among the cowboys and ranchers of the Southwest. Naturally he was assigned to duty as a cobbler and started hand-crafting boots for the soldiers. He joined the United States Army and in 1910 was stationed with the Calvary at Fort Bliss, Texas. As an apprentice, young Tony learned to be a cobbler and learned the properties of the different skins and leathers. Orphaned at age eleven his uncle apprenticed him to a cobbler in Syracuse, New York. Tony Lama was born to Italian immigrants in the year 1887. You can apply fillers such as paint stubs, blobs and creams. Generally, Gifs are an ancient format that is primarily considered legacy across major graphical applications. Use 'Onion Skin Mode' to create an animation with FireAlpaca. It's more obvious in images with large blocks of solid colour and abrupt colour separation than in more organic looking images that have gradual color changes and more organic looking colour blocks. If you make a gif on the FireAlpaca douga website, theres a little checkbox you need to uncheck that says 'Insert FireAlpaca Logo'. But the tiny size, combined with the high contrast picture makes this an ideal companion for business presentations on the go. The lack of wireless connectivity is disappointing, and the fact that Optima sells a dongle to correct that oversight for an additional cost is borderline insulting. The projector is also a little on the expensive side. You will want to make sure your presentation room is as dark as possible, though. It's ideal for business because it's bright enough for a conference room and small enough for a briefcase or backpack. The size becomes even more impressive when you consider the 700 ANSI lumens and 20,000:1 contrast ratio you get in this powerful machine. In this case, you can get a 100-inch projection from just six feet away. It's also a short-throw projector which means you can have the projector close to the screen and still have a full-sized picture. Photos of the projector don't really show just how very small this projector is. When you're talking about mini projectors, there's "mini" and then there's the Optima ML 750ST. Resolution: 1080p | Brightness: 50 ANSI lumens | Contrast Ratio: 2000:1 | Projection Size: 30 to 100 inches Overall, this device is small enough to fit into a jacket pocket or a small bag making it ideal for campers, hikers, or really anyone who wants to tote their own projector around. The included tripod lets you point the projector anywhere you need it to go. You can connect to your projector using the HDMI input or plug in a USB drive to display photos and movies. Still, we like to see that kind of versatility in devices. You can also charge your phone off of the battery, but that obviously leaves even less power for the projector. The projector comes with a 3,400 mAh battery built-in, which will barely get you through a 2-hour movie. It also has a fairly dim picture, however, so you'll want to set this projector up in as dark a room as possible. This device is about the size of three CD cases stacked on top of each other and has decent sound. Keeping in line with portability comes the Apeman M4 DLP projector. Resolution: 720p | Brightness: 200 ANSI lumens | Contrast Ratio: Not listed | Projection Size: 40 to 100 inches It's not cheap, but it's got everything you need built in. Overall, we really like the Nebula Capsule II, and think it's the perfect solution for a pop-up cinema night or even as a bedroom TV for occasional use. The projector runs on Google's Android software, so along with the easy-to-use interface you can easily download apps like Netflix or Hulu, plus you get the added bonus of built-in Google Assistant. You can also control it using Google Assistant or via a smartphone app or the supplied remote. It's got everything you need, including a speaker built into the base and a built-in app store-just connect it to a Wi-Fi network, and you're good to go. Comprehensive Connectivity: Conveniently connect to a wide range of AV sources through HDMI, USB, AV (RCA), VGA and Wi-Fi (also plays from USB flash drives). When considering mini projectors, portability is one of the prime considerations, and when it comes to that, being the size of a soda can is about as small as you can get (especially as most bags and backpacks have pockets designed for carrying drink-sized items).Additional features like zoom enable further image adjustment User-friendly ☑5° Keystone Correction squares images when the projector isn’t vertically centered. Fuss-Free Setup: Deal with distortion and get the image you want, whatever your situation. Sharp 1920 x 1080p resolution and higher 5500 lux image brightness for a vibrant picture with high contrast

Mortis echoes this sentiment, describing her own process with Buck Wylde. It‘s a very equal skill to what people who are very used to drag race and whatnot.” "There is actually a lot of people who put so much work into their costuming, so much work into their makeup. “Everyone's style is different, but I’ve heard criticism that it’s just people going on stage in street clothes," Williams says. And so there is always that struggle for anyone who is outside that realm.” –Trigger Mortis, aka Buck Wylde tweet thisĭespite a rich history, the drag-king world is often overlooked. It’s mostly cis white males who are seen, that are heard. And it doesn’t change when it's someone who is nonbinary or transgender or something like that. “It’s a tough one because, as for most women, we’re fighting to be seen, to be heard. It was a great way at first of exploring masculine identity." “At the time, I was still identifying as cis - I don’t think I had a term for that. “It‘s a very interesting way to play with gender,” Williams says. Lili Williams, who uses they/them pronouns, performed with Mustache Envy for years as Damien Dupree. The integration of the drag-king scene and burlesque as well as queerlesque also created changes within the local form, creating a shift away from the more traditional pageantry and expanding on the freedom and fluidity within the art form. “If a drag king wants to sport a mustache, but perhaps they have boobs and want to show off their boobs, they are going to show off their boobs in addition to the way they perform,” Musico says. Whereas before it was focused on achieving the look of the opposite gender, the newer fold strays from tradition and embraces gender fluidity. I think a lot of it came more so from the pageant world." They had all these very particular rules about how you do drag: you have to bind, you have to apply facial hair. "When I first had started, there was an organization called IDKE, which was the International Drag King Extravaganza. Musico’s deep involvement in and around the drag-king scene has spanned its various courses. Now, Mustache Envy is one of the longest-running king-centric drag troupes in Texas. They've raised money for causes such as the Suicide Crisis Center and gender-affirming care like top surgery. The group’s roots lie in visibility and fundraising. “There weren’t very many drag-king-friendly places, and so for, it was about providing a space for kings and that visibility.” “Dukes of Dallas had stopped around 2009, so there wasn’t anywhere for drag kings at all,” she says. Its co-founder and executive producer, Cher Musico, got involved with the drag scene after taking photos for a former group, Dukes of Dallas. Mustache Envy, a drag and queerlesque group founded in 2010, performs throughout North Texas, particularly at Sue Ellen’s. “We don’t really display any kind of toxic masculinity unless we are doing it in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way, where we are poking fun at the patriarchy, and everyone in the audience is in on the joke,” says Mortis. Mortis invokes one of Dick’s quotes when thinking about her own work: “Instead of becoming an angry woman, I became a funny man.” That is, their dismay with the patriarchy helped fuel their drag king ethos.īuck Wylde represents a particular masculinity. Dick, who is cited as one of the founding fathers of today’s Drag King movement. Mortis takes inspiration from New York City drag-king legend Mo B. When I am Buck, that is a totally different person.” “I love being able to be a completely different person. "He’s got all of the good parts of the perfect man and none of the bad parts,” Mortis says of the character. Buck Wylde is a concoction of pop culture excellence, invoking the likes of John Travolta, Brian Seltzer, Elvis Presley and Little Richard. “I was in my grandfather’s shirt and tie, and my mom’s blazer, and I had this terrible wig and terrible mustache - all forms of drag are valid, so whatever - but I’ve progressed since then,” she says.Īnd, for the past 12 years, the artist has performed as Buck Wylde across the local drag and burlesque landscape. Mortis entered the drag-king scene after dressing up as Morris Day to sing “Jungle Love” for a friend’s wedding. “There is a lot of people who don’t even know we exist,” says Trigger Mortis, who performs as drag king Buck Wylde. The drag king scene in Dallas-Fort Worth is far reaching, but there still aren’t enough stages for all the local kings. Indeed, some countries apply laws that hinder online freedom and the right to privacy on the Internet. the jurisdiction on which its rights, duties and activities depend. The first thing to consider before choosing one service over another is the country of domicile of the VPN, i.e. Conversely, residents of a country can bypass the geographical filters of streaming platforms such as Netflix to access films, TV series and documentaries otherwise unavailable in their region. This allows, for example, expatriate or travelling internet users to unlock content exclusive to their country from abroad. This is an essential feature that allows the opposition to actively fight against the disinformation put in place by totalitarian regimes, while minimising the risk of suspicious arrests and disappearances of politicians, activists, journalists and human rights defenders.įinally, installed on macOS, a VPN facilitates access to content from streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO), television (Canal+, France TV, BBC) or gaming (PS Now, Xbox Game Pass). In addition to enhancing Internet security and privacy, most VPNs offer the ability to bypass state-sponsored cyber-censorship in authoritarian countries such as China, Iran and Russia. By extension, it becomes very difficult for advertisers and other data brokers to track and profile Internet users for targeted advertising. Using a VPN on Apple operating systems therefore allows Mac users to hide the details of their online activities from their ISP and hackers (encrypted tunnel), but also to keep their identity secret from the web platforms they are visiting (substitute IP address). The secure connection passes through a VPN server, which decrypts the secure data packets, assigns a new IP address to the user (that of the VPN server in question) and sends the request back to the web servers being queried. In detail, a Virtual Private Network (VPN) encrypts traffic and routes it from the device to the public Internet via a tunnel, also encrypted, isolated from the rest of the standard HTTPS traffic. in a blanket of the brightest stars Hoping either one of us will go too far Feeling for each other in the dark Can't let this moment This moment slip away'Cause t. eam and conspire Little souls aligned little souls How did we find A 17 8.Lately II lamed the stars for aligning wrong And you cursed a God you 18 4.Someone In The Crowd with the stars aligned I think I'll stay behind You've 19 1.Show Yourself l at all?
